Overview:

The Senior Occupational Therapist at TTS, is responsible for undertaking occupational therapy assessment and treatment of clients living with spinal cord injuries, head injuries, strokes, limb amputations, neurodegenerative and neuro-congenital conditions, multi trauma within the urban remote and very remote settings of the Northern Territory.

This position includes the provision of assessment and treatment of clients referred to Territory Therapy Solutions, home and overnight community visits; travel may be required by plane and 4WD to various communities in the Northern Territory.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide high quality, reliable, culturally sensitive, caring and respectful occupational therapy assessments and interventions to adults with physical disabilities with minimal needs for supervision.
  • Provide evidence based clinical leadership and supervision to the occupational therapy team.
  • Provide guidance to the OT Team Leader/Management Team on strategic directions of the occupational therapy practice at TTS.

Mandatory Position Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree of Occupational Therapy or higher qualification.
  • Completion of assessments and treatment programs relevant to occupational therapy for clients living with spinal cord injuries, head injuries, strokes, limb amputations, neurodegenerative and neuro-congenital conditions, multi trauma. This includes
    • Completion of assessments for simple and complex Assistive Technology (AT)
    • Completion of assessments for simple and complex home modifications and related activities including funding applications and liaison with relevant stakeholders to ensure satisfactory project completion.
    • Completion of upper limb assessments and implementation of evidenced based interventions to improve functional capacity.
    • 24-hour positioning assessments and interventions plus carer/support worker training
    • Cognitive and behavioural assessments and associated interventions to improve functional skills and capacity.
    • Housing assessments for supported independent living (SIL) and Specialist Disability Accommodation – SDA
  • Collaboration within the TTS multi-disciplinary team and with external stakeholders.
  • Updated client records on our client software system
  • Completion of high quality and comprehensive reports.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of therapy assistant and carers as required to meet client treatment goals.
  • Participation in service development and quality improvement activities relevant to the business activities of TTS occupational therapy service.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of communication written and verbal skills, be a highly resourceful and collaborative team player with a creative streak.
  • Police Check Clearance.
  • Current Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of Office 365.

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of Salesforce (Lumary).
  • Current First Aid & CPR.
  • FIM Credentialed
  • Post Graduate Qualifications in Clinical Rehabilitation or complex home modifications training.

OVERVIEW
Speech pathology is a valued and growing service at TTS. The aim of speech pathology is to compliment and streamline existing allied health services by providing speech pathology assessments and interventions to those living with physical, cognitive and communication impairments due to neurological impairment and complex physical conditions within Darwin and remote and very remote locations throughout the Northern Territory. We aim to simplify our clients’ therapy journey building functional capacity so that they can thrive in their communities of choice. Our current speech pathologist supports the Territorian with their individualised communicative needs and support them during their mealtimes.

Our new speech pathologist will join and work collaboratively with the team of speech pathologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and therapy assistants to complete assessments and interventions for clients with augmentative and alternative communication, voice disorders, dysphagia, dysarthria and dysphasic conditions due to neurological or related impairments. The speech therapist may need to travel by small plane, 4WD to remote and very remote locations to see their clients, as well as provide therapy to clients at the TTS clinic or in community settings that align with the client goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The below responsibilities, will be overseen by your Team Leader for any particular issues or any gaps in your knowledge that arrise on the day. You will complete a minimum of 10 shadowed sessions with your team leader for any swallowing assessments. Initial communication assessments will also be completed with a team leader until you feel confident. You will also get scheduled weekly supervision to help manage your early career caseload.

  • Completion of mealtime management plans and community dysphagia assessments.
  • Completion of standardised and evidence-based assessments, appropriate screening tools and interventions with clients with communication impairment.
  • Prescription of augmentative and alternative communication systems and training to the client and their communication partners.
  • Prescribe communication programs to be administered by therapy assistants. Supervise and oversee the therapy assistant completing these programs.
  • Participation in internal in-service program.
  • Completion of case notes, time entries into our client management software of Lumary and Timecamp.
  • Completion of professional development activities in line with SPA recommendations.

 

EXPECTED QUALIFICATIONS
• Current registration with Speech Pathology Australia
• Bachelor or Masters in Speech Pathology
• Post graduate studies welcomed.

OVERVIEW

The Therapy Assistant is responsible for providing support with client home visits, hydrotherapy, and on-site gymnasium. The Therapy Assistant assists with developing and implementing resources and equipment under the direction of an occupational therapist, physiotherapist and speech pathologist.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Carry out therapy programs from the direction of our therapists.

• Create resources from a variety of programs which may include Word, Excel, Boardmaker, OT Draw.

• Scoring of standardised reports.

• Report set up and data entry.

• Complete hygiene and cleaning of equipment in the clinic rooms and gymnasium.

• Maintain appropriate clinical and progress notes in our client software.

• Setting up and preparing equipment and rooms for treatment.

• Sourcing of equipment and resources.

• Managing loan equipment pool.

• Assist therapists on home visits, setting up equipment, lifting equipment in and out of vehicles – following up trials.

• Assisting with arranging quotes for items.

• Assist with completing risk and home environment assessments.

• Assisting with purchase of items required by therapists.

• Creation of visual programs and resources. For example: recipe and activity development resources.

• Travel to/from communities by small plane or 4WD to assist therapists and see clients.

 EXPERIENCE

• Certificate in Allied Health Assistant and/or previous working experience within a healthcare setting or working towards a related allied health qualification.
